Why is my laptop overheating and shutting down?
Overheating can result from dust buildup, high CPU usage, or a failing cooling system.
Laptops often overheat due to poor ventilation or high internal temperatures. Start by inspecting the vents and fan area; use compressed air to blow out dust. Software-wise, check if any processes are using excessive CPU power—an app or system process could be causing the heat. On Windows, you can check Task Manager, and on Mac, use Activity Monitor to identify heavy processes. Placing the laptop on a flat, hard surface (not a bed or lap) helps maintain airflow. If the fan seems noisy or isn’t running, it could be damaged and may require professional repair or replacement. Investing in a cooling pad can also reduce heat buildup during extended use.
